Sam Obar Show ends this week

June 15, 2011

On Saturday, The Sam Obar Show will broadcast its last episode ever, after three years on the air on WDIS AM 1170 in Norfolk, Massachusetts. The show first went on the air in June 2008, with Michael Amaral as the first guest to talk about the Walpole Rebel mascot.

Since then, the show has hosted a number of important and influential policy-makers. For example, the show had a coveted interview with State Treasurer Tim Cahill, at the time an independent candidate for governor, in August 2010. Two months later, The Sam Obar Show hosted a debate between Congressman Barney Frank and his Republican opponent Sean Bielat in a competitive election that was closely watched by pundits across the country. The show has also featured interviews with Senator Scott Brown, former Massachusetts Governor Paul Cellucci, and International Relations professor Andrew Bacevich, among others, over the years. Three members of the Board of Selectmen have also been on the show.

I am thankful to WDIS management for the opportunity to host a show. It probably was a gamble in 2008 for them to trust a then-15-year-old to take over an hour of prime-time live airtime every week.

Sam Obar 180 will continue in The Sam Obar Show’s stead. There are no plans to shut down 180 anytime soon.
